And then to top it off my temperature gauge will be at like 195 degrees then shoot up to 210 maybe 220 then go back to around 195 or stay at 210?
I feel like somthing is wrong with me jeep and idk what it could be the ticking is getting to me I hope its not my oil pump someone please gimme some ideas thank you

Sounds like a lifter, or rocker arm BTW your oil pump is at the bottom of the engine. The oil pressure going up when on the throttle is normal, it will lower once it warms up and the oil thins a little, the temp will flucuate especially at a stop light it doing it at stop lights? or while moving? if its doing it while moving may be water pump, When it goes to 220° your efan should kick on so youll see it drop.

Could be a lifter, rocker arm/pivot, and in my case, a pushrod.

Listen around the firewall. I don't know about on a 98 but on mine there is an evap solenoid on the firewall on the passenger side, and it ticks really loudly.

Mine makes a bad ratle noise at low idle; then stops when I rev it up. I think it's the flexplate. I saw a video on youtube whre another jeep did this and the noise was exactly like mine.
As I understand it, flexplate problems are common on the early Cherokees.

if it quiets when warm consider exhaust leak from manifold or gasket or downpipe connection. the metal warming up causes expanding which in turn lessens the gap and reduces noise. mine turned out to be a bad seal at the downpipe and manifold.

you could have a air bubble in your cooling system, causes similar problems. i would agree that you may have a lifter/rocker/push rod/valve adjustment problem, or it could be that you just never noticed the sounds before my heep makes all kinds of noises when i shut it off it sounds like it has a rod knock. 270k strong i still rev that thing to 5k well it does it to itself but you know what i mean. i have always said dont fix it until it breaks

My jeep made a tapping noise at idle.I pulled motor last week to get rebuilt & it was my flexplate! Cracked all the way around n ready to fail in a few hundred more miles. Check your flexplate. Cracked exhaust header maybe. Does it tick throughout the rpm range or only at low rpm? GL
