3rd gear grinding sychrinize issue

3rd gear grinding sychrinize issue
Got a 91 xj 5 spd gring going into and out of 3rd gear. My question is to replace synchronizer do you have to take whole tranny down or anyway to fix without dropping it? Also is synchronizer the common issue thanks for all the help
