35s should fit good with a 6.5" lift. You might get some minor rubbing at full stuff, especially when trying to turn the front wheels at full stuff. You can fix prevent this with fender trimming or extended bump stops. I recommend going with the bump stops. That is just because I don't like the idea of hacking up the fenders and having to buy expensive after market flares. If you don't mind it, then you could go either direction.

Wheel spacers will just help keep the tires from rubbing on the rear leafs or front lower control arms if you wheel offset is wrong or if you're trying to use your stock rims with bigger tires.

Bumpstops are those little rubber things you see above your springs. Round in front and square and pointed in the rear. If you get longer or extended bumpstops it will keep your 35" massive meats from chewing up your fenders when you flex it out and stuff tires on the trail.

Which is why you install extended bumpstops and they will help prevent or at least minimize rubbing.

Well a 35" tire is considerably bigger than the XJ wheel well was ever meant to fit. Even if you lift it to the sky, if you flex it out and stuff a 35" tire up into an XJ wheel well, you're going to do some serious damage unless you've hacked them up with a sawsall or tin snips.
