i hove a 1991 jeep cherokee sport and it has 345000 miles. it runs great but the trany takes a few min to shift into gear. it has been a daily driver for over a year. should i worry about the trany or let it ride.

I would definitely do a trans service and flush every 8 months to a year. Other than that i say drive it til it dies and hit up the junk yard when it dies.

It's probably just wear. If that's the original tranny, it's amazing that it's lasted this long. If you're doing fluid changes regularly, that's all you can do. Drive it until it dies or replace it now if you plan on anything other than daily commuting or rely on it for getting you back and forth to work everyday. It's better to plan for major maintenance then have it creep up on you.
At a tire shop up the road from me, they have a bunch of pictures and a litle article of a 90's model XJ with 300K so odd miles on it. They sold him a set of tires that last 200K of those miles. AutoWorld in Big Stone Gap, VA (local dodje dealer) told him if he could make to to 400K without having to crank in motor/tranny/or diff they would give him a new jeep...

dose that go for any jeep owner.the guy i got it from had the rear end rebuilt and the only problem i have had was the torque converter bolts came loose.
DO NOT FLUSH THE TRANS!! It will go out for sure if you do!! You have got a lot of friction creating particles in the system, and they actually help your trans stay alive. Change the fluid and the filter periodically, other than that, drive the wee out of it!! HTH!!
