Im getting new tires soon and wondering if i should go with 33's or 35's. Will the stock axles handle 35's? Would I need to re-gear to run the 35's?
Thanks for any input

from what i hear you should regear with 33's to 4.10 and 35's to 4.56 or 4.88
i have no actual experience in this but this is what ive heard

I have a 1990 xj and I am running 35's on stock axles. I have only had it out a few times on some light trails, last night took it out on some big rocks and everything held up actually really well. It all depends on what kind of driving you will be doing, but I would recommend gearing. I only drive in 4-LO so mine is just fine with me for now.

35s is going to take a lot of work. Just run 33s, or even 31s are pretty capable. I did some pretty hard trails on semi bald 31s.
Im sitting on a 6.5in lift and 32's right now. I think I would just need some minor trimming and maybe gears to run the 35's. What do you guys think? Just go with the 33's? Although the 35's are cheaper than the 33's....

My vote is for 35's trim and re gear if needed. Especially since your going more for looks. If you get the 35's before re gearing post a vid of what driving it is like with the stock gears
Im a poor high school kid and probably dont have the money to regear so I guess ill just go with the 33's.

I know a guy who runs 35's on his stock 3.73 gears, but its a absolute joke power wise, he cant even shift into 5th at 70 or it will lug.

So I have a bit of a different question, but on a similar topic. I am going to be making my motor a 4.6 at about 250 hp. What would you guys regear with if you have that kind of power to work with? 33s and 35s either or which gears/
Thanks Brendan

Yeah, 250hp isn't that much. Still gonna need to regear.Originally Posted by BBPeik

To answer that question we would need to know where in the power band the motor makes the BEST AVERAGE power. You dont want to scream your engine to achieve max horsepower all the time, cause that would be efficent(sp). You want to figure out what the tire size and gearing in the axles and trans does to rpm. Keep in mind that in 4th gear rpms are in 3rd or 5th.

run 31s youll save on gas and you can run well with them, just nothing to crazy 3.55s will be ok but 4.10 would keep the pwr to the ground better. but if you really want to go 33-35 for a daily/mudder 33s on 4.10s would be the ticket.
