Hey Jeepers.. I've NO clue about anything mechanical, and I live in a town where it's $200/hr to have your vehicle looked at. So... help.
My Cherokee started making a whiney noise a few weeks back, then quit. Sounded like it was coming from under the hood. My boss is a mechanic, and he took a quick look at all the belts and said they looked fine. Wasn't sure what the issue was, and we were swamped so no time to look any further.
Now my heat has almost completely quit on me. It'll be running..high/med/low just fine, then suddenly it'll sound like it's about to cough up a lung. It starts as a little grumble, then a full on roar.. I don't really know how to best describe it, but it sounds... dry? And then the intensity cuts back, and then I'll freak out and turn it off, not wanting to do anymore damage.
She's a 92 Jeep Cherokee Limited edition. V6 4L. Don't know any of the other specs off the top of my head.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I simply can't afford to have someone spend 3 hours "diagnosing" the problem, then another handful to fix it. But I also can't afford to not have any heat in these extreme conditions.

If the noise is related to "low-med-high" its your blower motor, not sure if you have Autozone in Canada, but the blower motor is $26.00 and easy to replace

so you are not getting any heat or is the fan making noise?? I live in NE Montana so my weather is about the same as yours. Coach
I can guarantee your weather isn't comparable, lol.
Ive been to Montana in Feb and that was similar to our October weather. -35 with 10 feet of snow just doesn't seem realistic for anywhere in the USA. I'm a couple hours south of the Territories...think "Ice Road Truckers". Yuck.
The sound isn't coming from my engine. And it does it regardless of heat/fan level.
I get some heat, but when the Boise starts I shut it off asap. I've had it on low for the past 30 mins and it's been fine. But, oddly, if I were to hit a bump, it'll start acting up.
If it's the blower motor, would that be something I can do myself? I do my own brakes and recently replaced a u-joint..I dont know much but I'm not useless haha.
