3 mpg...
My jeep used a full tank of gas in 90 miles so me and my buddy went looking into it. While it was running we disconnected the map sensor and it stayed running indicating the map sensor was faulty. So after we replaced it we tested it again and with the new map it still would not shut the vehicle off after we unplug it. Now I'm lost on where to go from here

Sounds like a bigger problem to me. Check your gas tank for leaks around the pump flange. My comanche had a bad gasket and i would leak out 1/2 tank of gas.
Second: Check your injectors and your engine oil.
Third: 02 sensors, and ignition system.
Fourth: are you sure someone didnt syphon your tank.

Thanks for all the replys. I changed oil o2 sensors I changed every single sensor that has to do with fuel mixture. Coolant temp sensor, air temp sensor, tps, map, air filter, every one on the throttle body including the throttle body itself. I'm lost and it still puffs out a huge black cloud of smoke when you rev it. Guess Imma start doing electrical pinouts

Have you pulled and inspected your spark plugs... would assume they would be gas soaked or covered in carbon. What about the fuel injectors ... might one or more be stuck open? I used a mechanics stethoscope and placed on each injector while engine running, you can hear the injector ticking.

I haven't seen any mention of fuel pressure testing. Must be done with a fuel pressure gauge and compare that reading to factory spec.
I'm not saying that is your problem, but it is a data point that must be ruled in or out. Failing fuel pressure regulator, etc. are a possibility.

Make sure the MAP is getting manifold vacuum. Maybe check manifold vacuum also....Pretty crucial that, it will tell your PCM to dump fuel. It's telling it you have your right foot down which kills the Vac, if the tube (or elbow(Map may have moved from the firewall to the TB DURING 96, not sure there) . Vacuum to the MAP is what makes it tell the PCM to decrease injector pulse width.
