Is 3.54 rear, 3.55 front ok and how do I disable ABS?
Hi, I just got a 1994 cherokee 4.0 HO ABS country version. The stock dana 35 in the rear was going out (all the bolts on the ring gear were loose!). Anyway the stock gear ratios are 3.55.
I just picked up a rear axle out of a 87.5 cherokee with the trail rated badge. The diff turned out to be a limited slip dana 44 with 3.54 gears. Should I try to get the front out of that parts jeep as well? Is it ok to have the 3.54 in the back and 3.55 in the front?
Also, this 44 axle doesn't have ABS but has 1" larger drums then on the stock 35 rear end. I just unplugged the rear speed sensors under the seat. My ABS light is on now. Should I do anything else or be concerned about the ABS?
Thanks, I'm totally new to the world of jeeps.

You will be fine with the D44 transplant in your 94 XJ. I put a D44 out of an 87 into my 91 XJ with the 4.0. Auto tranny and 3.55 gears. Your 94 and my 91 are pretty much the same Jeep. The D44 was purely a bolt in for me.

Don't worry about the difference in ratio. At .01, your jeep won't even notice a difference. As far as the abs goes, it shouldn't really cause any problems other than the light being on.
the axle will be fine it is considered a 3.55 it is like the same thing when you shop for 4.10's some will be 4.09 and some will be 4.11 but they are still considered a 4.10
Cool, thanks guys. Everything did seem to just bolt in. Now I am wondering about the driveline. I read that you usually need a lift or shorter driveline to account for the dana 44 being 1" longer in front. How much lift would I need? And how much lift can you go without changing drivelines?
I drove this a little but it howls pretty good when I give it gas. Coasting or no gas and she is really quiet. I was thinking bearings but could my stock no lift and driveline be related to howl under a load?
thanks,

I'm running a D30 / D44 combo in the jeep and I'm fine. I belive as long as it is with in a 5% range you are fine. Most ring and pinions aren't the exact same they just take the average and go with it. As stated most 4.10 ring and pinions are a 4.09, 4.10, or 4.11 ratio. I also have a 94 w/ ABS like you. I simply unpluged the abs from under the rear seat and pulled them out with the D35. The ABS light is on but she drives just fine.
