I am a college kid low on money (like most college kids). I just bought a 94 xj a few weeks ago and I want to lift about 3 to 4 inches using chevy s10 leaf springs or dodge dakota leafs and V8 GC coils and then new shocks. My question is will I have to add anything else or do anything else to the xj if I lift it 4" ?

dude, welcome to the club.. i just graduated and i'm in the process of the "budget boost".. you technically don't need anything more.. but you will probably want a transfer case drop. which you can make yourself for cheap. little things like new center pins, u-bolts and hardware, spring clips, bumpstop extenders (hockey pucks), JK Rubicon shocks will work like charm and you can get new/take-offs for cheap... bar pin eliminators... Sway bar links... quick disconnects.. and lower control arms or you'll have terrible caster.
It'll be fine if its not your daily driver, cuzz you might be in the middle of the lift and realize you need a tool or part... then its nice to have another vehicle rather then the bus.. thats my problem...

Thanks a lot man! Good info. The jeep is my daily driver...like I said poor college student. lol. I could buy another car but I'd rather not pay insurance on two vehicles (damn government). So, with it being my DD, if I lift it 4" will I need all the parts you just listed? Why would I need to drop my transfer case? And what is "caster". Also, you recommended Rubicon shocks...about how much will those run me? I'd like to go withe cheapest shocks out there but one's that will do the job. I heard Monroe shocks from AutoZone were the way to go but I don't really know. Yeah, i've been looking into buying a scooter ha, not sure if i can withstand all the pointing and laughing though...
With a 4" lift you may or may not have driveshaft vibrations because of the type of slip yoke that jeeps use... to "cure" this cheaply you drop your transfer case crossmember about an inch.
Caster is the angle at which your front wheel is with respect to straight up and down, you want it "tilted" back a little so it doesn't drive like a shopping cart and possibly death wobble on you.
Rubicon shocks (fits lifts 2"-4") you can snag for cheap i got mine for 40 plus 10 shipping. Rich people lift their JK's and and so you come in and buy their "old" shocks, easy. You will probably have to relocate/re-route your front brake lines and e-brake cable... no biggy

So lets say I do lift it 4" and I end up with caster and death wobble...are you saying dropping the t case will solve that problem? With 4" of lift do I need to worry about any other driveline components...swaybars, etc..?Originally Posted by gspaceunit

Transfer Case drop stops driveshaft vibrations...
Longer Lower Control arms give you proper caster.. you can use the stock upper control arms unless you go above 4.5", theres a link somewhere that gives you the exact measurements.
The front sway bar links will need to be extended (not 100% sure about this)
Just remove the rear sway bar all together, its tiny and useless anyway...
yeah just go with the ZJ V8 Up-Country coils and Dodge Dakota or Chevy S-10 leafs .... and your good to go... oh and get an alignment after its all done... just a front wheel alignment not 4 wheel.
