2wd transmission model
As long as it's an XJ Cherokee and not a ZJ Grand Cherokee, it'll be the AW4 which has been standard since '87*.
Since yours is 2wd, you'll have a different "cone" on the output where the driveshaft connects vs a 4wd model which needs a different adapter to fit a transfer case. Other than that, it's the same AW4 trans*.
Great thread for looking up general specs and so forth. Searching is your pal.
* The spline count on the output shaft changed from 21 to 23 in 1991; there are other subtleties if you're thinking of swapping to another rig, selling, what have you.
This thread is a guide to DIRECT interchangeability and what you'll encounter if you're doing a swap or what have you.

The ZJ used the AW4 in early 93 before switching to the 42RE.
The XJ used the AW4 from 87-01. It was used on both 2wd and 4wd. The 2wd AW4 ID tag reads 30-43LE while the 4wd AW4 ID tag reads 40-30LE, but they are both an AW4. If you need to replace a 2wd AW4, find another 2wd. The output shafts are different lengths between 2wd and 4wd. To make one work with the other it must be torn down. Also, the 98-01 AW4 have a second speed sensor the 97 and older did not.
