Sure you can use any lift intended for a 4X4 XJ on a 2WD. The springs mount in exactly the same position, as do the control arms and swaybar mounts, the only difference is that the front axle is just a beam, not a differential. I have a 3" RC lift on my 2WD XJ and there is no difference in the install between a 4x4 either. Go for it man!

One advantage it no driveline issues...I wouldn't go over 3" on a 2wd model though. That's just a personal opinion.

Eh, not so fast on the driveline issues, I got some vibes at 3", and ended up doing a small crossmember drop to alleviate it. Apparently most 2WDs have no issues with vibes though. Maybe I'm just unlucky, lol...

the only issues you might encounter are for longarms, where they require special belly pans and mounts for the 4wd versions.

So say i went with a 4.5" lift on my 2wd..i would need to get long arms?but only the 4wd requires belly pan/mounts?

wat about a 3.5" lift with 3" body lift?whats your guys opinon on body lifts?

EDIT: looking around and i dont think they make a body lift.is this true?

Yes thats true. Cherokees are unibody construction. no way to lift the body off the frame

You can lift higher that 3" no problem, you probably won't need long arms either. To go for a height like 4.5"-5.5" you would need to pick up a set of adjustable control arms to center the axle in the wheel well, and to correct your caster angle. A set of control arm drops (much less expensive than long arms) will alleviate the harsh ride that comes with higher lifts. You are not limited in any way over a 4x4's ability to lift, you will just have different driveline issues (not neccesarily worse, just different) than a 4x4. And I second Caged's idea GO JEEPSPEED! There's a ton of 2WD XJ's doing Jeepspeed!
