2WD AX15 to a 4WD AX15
I am looking at a dirt cheap 93 4.0HO 2 door Cherokee with 200k miles on it. very little rust for a Michigan jeep and the interior is very clean and its also a 5 speed with the AX15. The only problem is that it is 2WD. I happen to have a 231 transfer case and front dana 30 off of a 95 Cherokee and had the thought of converting this jeep to 4x4. My main question is that can you convert a 2WD AX15 to a 4x4 AX15, and if so what parts would i need to do it. I know that there is a couple differences between the the different generations of the AX15 like having the internal and external slave cylinder and different spline counts on the output shaft but i do not know what year they changed over and if the 95 231 t case will bolt up to the 93 AX15 that is in the jeep. I have heard from some people that the output shaft is to long on the 2WD ones to bolt up to the 231 and others have said the the bolt pattern is different. I just wanted to see if anyone has a definite answer on this topic because i cant seem to find one about this year of xj.

It would be a lot better to just find a 4wd AX15 then to try to convert the 2wd AX15 over. Ask me how I know... As freegdr say, way more cost effective to get a donor vehicle. I didnt have a donor vehicle and it was not cheap.
I have finally figured out how to bypass the computer for my check engine lights, I will post all the details on here when I get the wiring cleared up and get all the correct information on how to do this properly for you guys. Stay tuned

Guys, his question is how to bolt a 231 on the back of a 2wd AX15. I think you need the rear case and shorter output shaft from a 4wd AX15. As was said, you'd be better off finding a used 4wd AX15.
