2WD to 4WD Done!!!!
Took about 14 hours total with a lift, impact and no help. I did do it over 3different days so I did get some thinking time of how to get it done. Everything went great as mine was a 01 and used 98 and up parts. Only thing I don't have done is the dash light showing it's "in" 4wd. I took the dash out and it does have bulbs and even plugged in the one from the donor 4x4 but it didn't come on. I am going to check for a fuse. If thats not it I am done my F150 light only works half the time since new.
My axle was the newer one so I didn't have a tube running to it. Everything bolted up easy and was handy having the complete donor sitting right outside. Funny it actually like you are redoing a 4x4 as it was set up to be a 4x4 it just didn't get the parts.

Yes I have some pictures some on my cell which is easy attach (no resizing) and some with a camera but tried to attach and seem to big. Someone wants some I can email or when I get time get them resize and put them up.
I did the transmission Saturday and made sure it was driveable (finally no leaking 2wd transmission!!!!). Yesterday I realize I could take off today so starting last night to get a headstart.

Excellent work. I converted a '96 back a few years ago. Did it in my driveway on the weekend and drove it to work on Monday night after an alinement Monday morning.

So how is the clearance between the front driveshaft and the downpipe for the exhaust. Always wondered how it would work putting a high pinion D30 in and 01. 00 and 01 used a low pinion D30 from the factory, I always thought is was to clear the downpipe.

Can you use the 2wd transmission and just buy the front end and transfer case? to do this? what other major parts do you need beside the front end and transfer case?

Good work morris! I've been daydreaming about doing this for a while. I just wish I had the cash flow to pick up a donor truck to steal all the needed parts from. What wiring would be needed for this swap? As far as I knew the 4x4 AW4 runs the same wiring as a 2WD one, then the indicator light wiring for the t-case. Other than that all that would be needed would be the front axle, front d-shaft, and the rear d-shaft... Am I missing something here?
