2wd to 4wd conversion. Quick question
I'm converting my 2wd Cherokee to 4wd soon and I need to know if I need to grab the transmission control module out of the 4wd to put in mine? I'm getting the trans, transfer case, both driveshafts, the front axle, shifter and all the linkages from the same year donor.

No, you'll be fine with the TCU you have. The TCU doesnt care if theres a transfercase behind the transmission.
I run an 88 trans in my 94 that i converted 10 yeras ago. Runs fine with 94's 2wd TCU.

let me know how your conversion goes. im looking at a 94 2wd for 400.00, but runs very well. if i could get all the running gear for around 4 to 5 hundered, well that could be a fun project.

if you are putting it into a jeep that requires a manual speedo cable, make sure you get that too.

I'm gonna post pics on here soon when I start the conversion. I'm just doing the conversion because I'm tired of guys giving me crap because I got a 2wd Cherokee with 40's and it can go most places they can. I got some pics flexing the jeep doing better than other guys on the trail. Damn toyotas lol

the 89 has a manual speedo cable instead of an electric one like yours has. you would have to get a conversion tail housing or a SYE that takes the electric speedo instead of the cable speedo. but yea it should all work out.
