2WD to 4WD conversion

So after Memorial day weekend me and a couple of friends are going to make my '94 5-speed 2wd XJ, to a 4wd. I have a donor jeep that we are going to use, is there anything that I should know about before we start? Like the gearing (I'm has to be the same in front and rear diff?) what about the electronics? vacuum lines? all that good stuff? Any advise from you guys would be a great help.....

I will be starting the same project very soon, and I am under the impression that all I need is the following:
Dana 30 Front Axle of the same gear ratio and year for the vac discos.
Transfer Case with same spline count
Front Drive Shaft of correct length
Rear Drive Shaft of correct length
4x4 Shift Linkage and Bezel
As far as I know, I just need to bolt these things on my 2WD XJ and replace the 2WD parts on mine, like the beam front axle and such.
However, when it comes to the transmission, I have heard some people say I need a 4x4 trans, and others say there is a tail cone on the end of the 2WD transmission that I can just unbolt and replace with the transfer case, which is correct?

Second, I also heard that like some chevy's you can unbolt the tail of the 2wd 5-speed, and mount the T-case to the, is this true?

6 cylinder engine- might be 3.07.
This is sorta an educated guess. My 89 Comanche 4 cy 5-speed had 4.10s. I know the newer 5 speed xjs have the high 3.07s.

So I guess the easiest way to tell gear ratio is lift one rear wheel, and count rotation of the drive shaft, with two rotations of the wheel?
I looked at my tranny, it looks like the ax15, but I can't unbolt the tail end, due to the fact that the part with the shift on it.......Looks like I'll have to go with the 4wd tranny.....
A friend of mine is going to help me, and I'm going to give him a buck fifty, for all the parts, all I need to get is axle shafts, and tranny now.....
Hopefully he's got the gears.
On another note, you guys now where to get cheap LCA, and UCA lowering brackets?

I've got a 3" lift now, thinking of throwing on 2" shackles, and spacers....I'm concerned about the control arms, and don't have the cash to throw down on the adjustables.....Thought it would be a cheaper way out?

do it right the first time, and dont use a disco front, just get a normal hp d30 non disco

I need to know a few things.
what year is your donor vehicle? is it the same trans?
whoever posted the information about gears is not entirely correct.. those are only guidelines that follow specifics.
with a 4.0 and 5 speed, you should have 3.07's but you could have 3.55's.
with a 2.5 and 5 speed you should have 4.10's but you could have 3.73's or 4.56's as well.

I have a '94....my donor XJ is a '91.
I looked at my tranny, don't think it will bolt up, looks like the tail that would have to come off in order to fit the t-case, has the gear shifter on it.
My XJ is a 4.0L 5-speed, with 8.25" rear end..

no.
you cannot directly bolt a t-case to a 2wd jeep transmission without completely gutting the transmission, installing a 4wd output shaft (which means needing a gear PRESS [NOT PULLER]), installing a 4wd output housing.
what is your donor jeep trans/engine?
if you don't know specifics of the trans designations, tell me the simple thing...4 cylinder, 5 speed, 4 cyl 4 speed, 4 cyl auto, 6 cylinder 5 speed, 6 cyl auto.
since you have a 4.0 5 speed, you need the transmission out of a 4.0 5 speed 4wd.
there is ZERO other way to convert to 4wd except to pull the trans and either swap it w/ a 4wd trans, or convert the trans from 2wd to 4wd using a junk donor 4x4 trans for parts. If you think otherwise....I hope you learn quick.
