2wd to 4wd
I recently bought a 88xj2wd 2door i was wondering how difficult it would be make it a 4x4 its a 4cl the truck is clean i got it for 500 bucks. doner rigs seam plentiful any help on this would be appreciated

Im on the same boat myself, i have a 98 2wd that i want to make 4x4 i heard someguys here saying it could be very easy but long or just very hard and it could be done for around 500- 700 $.

4x4 conversions is no harder than swapping transmissions. If you able to tackle that then you will be fine.
Being a 4 cly, I would recommend buying a 4.0l HO parts vehicle and swapping the entire drivetrain over. 4cly has no power and get the same mpg as the 6cly do This is totally dependent on the condition of your 88 compared to other XJ you can buy

What part of az you from. I have an 90 xj that the body is rusty but 4.0 eingine runs great. it is complete with d30 and d35 bolt in axle 3.55 gears. the tranny took a dump and the guy i was helping fix it bailed on the project so it needs to go. I have seen a few trannys on craigslist. Let me know maybe we can make a deal. I am south of tucson.
