Default 2nd stock electric fan

I really hate starting a threat like this, but I DID search, for almost an hr last night, and couldn't find the thread I'm looking for.

The poster put in place of the stock mechanical fan a 2nd stock electric fan and I believe wired it up to a thermostat, can't remember for sure though.

I snapped my fan shroud off last night and since I'll be going to the junkyard anyways for a "new" shroud, I figured why not pick up an electric fan to go in place of it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I believe I would leave the clutch mechanical fan in place.

The electric fan is noisy. If your battery goes bad, you might still have a little time to get somewhere to get the vehicle fixed without it overheating as long as there is at least the mechanical fan.

I'm with Fs5 regarding leaving the mechanical fan. IF the clutch is relatively new/in good shape, that puppy will move some major league air when the clutch senses high enough air temp and grabs/engages.

How did you snap the shroud? Motor mounts bad?

Heh funny you should mention the motor mounts....I was in the middle of replacing them and I think I bumped the top of it when I was working on the passenger side mount, and when I started the Jeep up it made an AWFUL noise. Popped the hood and realized what was going on, so I just shut it off and attempted to pull it back up some, and SNAP! there it went.

And wow maybe I should just leave the mech fan in place....thanks for all the input guys
