Default 2k Jeep A/C disable

Where do I find the fuse or relay the activates the clutch/compressor for the A/C on my 2k Cherokee? I need to turn off the A/C compressor until I get funds to repair. Although we are going into the cold season, the A/C comes on when you switch on the defrost mode. I my case the compressor clutch makes a chattering noise when on.

when in defrost mode it doesnt turn on per say it just gets the internals moving to lubricate the compressor to prevent seizing. the freon shouldnt be circulating in defrost...i think. good luck!

it would be in the fuse box, under the hood near to the battery. SHould be labeled on the underside of the cover..

I was thinking about what he siad^^ and it seems right but when its off it doesnt lubricate so i dont see any problems with it being disco'd. I guess just to make sure evrything is getting lubbed up just place the fuse in there every so often.

The same compressor clutch "chatter" is evident during summer A/C operation. Lifting the hood while the engine & A/C are running= the compressor is noisy as h$$l! Also, after it runs for several minutes the compressor is HOT. The A/C does throw a little cool air when it's not too hot out but when you really need it, yuk the air is warm. The unit is full up on charge. I'll try pulling the fuse under the hood. I tired this already but couldn't pull the fuse out (actually it's a small black box similar to a relay).

There should be a connector for the wires going to the compressor clutch. Disconnect that and tie it out of the way.

The A/C does work in defrost it acts like a dehumidifier, the guy that told you it just only rotates to lube the compressor in defrost is full of it. Just unplug the compressor and tie out of the way like said above.

I know it doesn't answer the question, but this is correct. The dehumidification is the key to "defogging" the windows.

Which is why Colorado and the southwest in general and our dry weather is awesome, unless you are doing in the Jeep its pretty hard to have fogged windows, and its so dry in winter that cracking a window open will defog the windows in a few minutes while driving.

aaand I just realized I bumped a year old thread. oops.
