27 2 29 spline
My wife is asking me for x-mas ideas so I told her I want a locker for the rear 8.25. I have a 27 spline but I want to put a beefier axle on before locking it. I decided to just put the 29 splines in it because all I would need is the axle shafts. Today I went to the jy to get them but I could not get the drums off for the life of me. It felt like there was a spring holding the drum on. Is there something holding the drums on that I am missing? I know that my drums just slide right off.

I agree with the unadjusting of the shoes, also bring a can of pb blast and soak it good. Continue pounding with bfh.
also if your drums slide right off with no issues, your rear brakes need to be tightened up, they should take some force to get them off, not a lot, but some. As another note on this adjusting rear brake stuff since I'm at it, you know you have it right when you spin the wheel and can feel the shoes lightly dragging inside the drum....
some tech. Info on WHY drums hang up on the disassembly I'll add in too, when the shoes wear the inside of the drum, it creates a "ridge" as the shoes do not contact 100% of the surface area inside the drum, closest to the backing plate, if you can picture that you'll understand why the unadjusting is needed, and if you live in a rust belt state, it gets about 10x worse due to having rust built up all around it also....
