I have seen several threads regarding this on several sites. It is possible to do it without a new bracket if someone decides to. It works well. A double groove pulley and belt number 174000 are needed. The pulley I used can be found on 1965-1995 Ford alternators. Installation is simple. Remove Ac and components. Pull the alternator (not required, just easier). Remove the idler, otherwise it will get in the way. Remove the one bolt with washer from the pulley. Pull the pulley and spacer off. Install the new pulley, do not use the spacer (should be obvious). Slide the belt over the crank and then over the alternator. Now install the alternator. If you install the alternator first, it kind of hard to get the belt on because the alternator does not move enough to slide the belt over the pulley. The belt is firm as it should be when it all together.

cherokee forum dude.

not one single person here is dumb enough to put a 258 in their cherokee. if you mean a 242, then you've got a lot to learn, because there were factory a/c delete pulleys.
