Default 231 transfer case bolt nightmare!!!

HI, does anyone know the specs for the one bolt in my 231 transfer case that is a 12 point spline socket head. i almost striped it completely trying to get it loose with a torks m-16 socket. this was before i figured out i had the wrong type of socket on it. why they used so many different kinds of hardware on Cherokees is beyond me.

any knowledge would be appreciated. thanks, mike

Are you talking about the 12pt bolt at the top of the case half?

Yes that’s the one. What socket do I need. A 12 point does not go on.

A 10mm 12pt socket does fit. Unless it's been replaced with something oddball.

Take a picture?

Yeah, I striped the head with the wrong tool. It was a 12 point 10mm. Now it is round. I fixed the issue. Thanks for the help !
