You'll need to drop the t-case.

I strongly recommend doing a complete rebuild since you're going to have to crack the case anyway.

Now I don't know if it the bearing or not. I have no front drive shaft in so would the bearing still be loud?

Some pointers:
-Try turning the front yoke by hand w/the t/c in neutral and see if it is difficult to turn or loud to determine if it is that bearing (probably not that bearing you have your d/s out)
-If you are sure its coming from your transfercase, there is also a chance it could be your actual planetary gears. The needle bearings on mine were worn and caused the transfercase to vibrate and gave the same symtoms of a bad bearing.

Your planetary gears are probably fine, but sounds like you do have a bad input bearing. No way of really telling exactly what is wrong though until you pull it out and crack it open. Like Frank said, I would just plan on rebuilding the whole thing with new bearings/seals, and I would also get some shift fork pads while you are in there to replace those (I have worked on about 3 cases and they were all worn out and could cause a whirling noise if worn).

So there's no way to find out till I open it? I just put the trans and tcase in the jeep. Ugh. I wonder if its low on fluid. I checked it before I put it up and it seemed a little low. Could that cause it? Possible chain?

Low fluid could Definitely cause noise. I would try filling it up (make sure the transfercase is in neutral also when you fill it I think I remember reading that in the fsm). If that doesn't work, you could always drain it and take a look through the drain hole to try to get a look at the chain and see if it is extremely loose, but it is pretty difficult to tell if a chain is worn by just looking through that hole.

Yea it sucks dealing with transfer cases especially if its your dd.

Thanks man i really appreciate your help. I really don't know how to work on a tcase that's why I'm scared to open it.

I'm in the same boat too. My rear output bearing is bad from to short of a driveshaft from my 4x4 conversion. Solution: got a 2nd tcase ready for a SYE
