Arrow 215/85R16?

I don't have much, if any, off road experience that can help me answer this question. Why aren't 215/85R16 tires used in anybodies Cherokee build-ups?

I've learned the easiest way to decide on the whole "skinny vs wide" debate is to see what people are using with success locally, and it seems skinny tires are it. After some general browsing I came across the 215/85R16 tire size, and it really peaks my interest.

Does anybody have any personal experience with tires in these sizes? Am I looking at something possibly too narrow? It seems the Camel Trophy vehicles do very well with skinny and tall tires such as these.

A fresh perspective on this tire size would be great. Thanks in advance.

The Cherokee came with 15" wheels, and most people pick form over function when it comes to tires. I like a fatter wider tire, 215 is pretty skinney, but I guess they work for snow or mud.

No personal experience with a skinny and tall tire. Mine are not much bigger than stock currently. However due to the only off road that mine sees being the beach I need a nice wide footprint. If they made a 30x12.5 I would be all over it. I don't really need the height just the wide footprint.

Yeah, I wouldn't be too keen on a skinny tire on the sandy beaches either.

jmo, taller/wider looks better. i guess it depends on the dude or chick. i have 265-75-16s on mine. they work well but the rears rub quite a bit when they are stuffed in.

I just got my xj and plan on lifting 3"(haven't decided rustys or rc) and I will use either 215/85r16 or235/85r16 depending on space(don't want to trim.
