HAHA....kiddin folks,

Well, just changed the oil an filter in 'Ol Red.....

Went with the WIX filter, one quart of the MMO and the 10W-30 Valvoline.

No BS, I was amazed, at startup this morning, got no annoying high pitched clackin like I've had for quite long time.

Is it the MMO? is it the WIX? Time will tell.

However,........There is a more pronounced rod knock....no frets, have had it a long time, just the nature of the 4.0 heart I reckon, I guess cuz of the lifter/valve ticking it was not as audible. When i say a long time, I mean like 100k miles. Am not concerned, as she runs as great as it always has.

Soooooo, for you guys out there whom I have listened to here with regard to the horror stories of the FRAM nightmare,.....I ask this, is there a recommended interval to re-change the oil after I have imbued her heart with the MMO as far as miles go? oil change was at 281305.3

I read from one of ya, that you changed just the oil after 500 miles after using the first treatment of MMO, did you add another quart of MMO at that time or just a regular drain and fill?

Want everyone to understand, I have used FRAM for over 30 yrs, and have never had any engine damage, even on the vettes. BUT.....the immediate difference with the WIX filter on the 4.0 has me convinced.

I know I am just a member here and all points of knowledge are greatly appreciated, as well as if I can help anyone, is why I joined.

Have had many vehicles over the years, and this vehicle (barring my hand restored BMW 525i), is hands down the most durable vehicle made.

All the best!

Hey there cpnwrench, found this:

I've noticed some recommendations to start out with 16oz. of MMO in engine treatment scenarios. I was able to get in about 10 without any problem and not going past the supposed max indicator on my car's dipstick and wonder if that would be sufficient for the initial treatment or if I need to go ahead and get it to 16oz. total? If so, I suppose I could replace the current filter and go at it that way...

But I am presently at the end of my OCI, and thought I'd push it another 500-1,000 miles with this first MMO usage and then do the full oil/filter change. At that point I am presently planning on replacing a full quart of new oil with a quart of the MMO for at least the next interval, and then perhaps scale it back to half a quart at the OCI and another half shortly before the end of the OCI. (As well as going to a larger filter for as long as the MMO is in play.)

RUBBLE!!!!!! Thanks so much for your insight!

Yeah this is a test,,,, I mean she's got 280k on the ODO, and am wantin to see how well these chrysler 4.0's can really take afore they up and fail.
pretty damn sturdy blocks if you ask me.

the MMO did indeed stop that lifter tick, or was it the WIX?

anyway, i am goin on long distance adventure, from west Texas to Tampa next week, will see how it holds, when I return i am gonna do another change.

I have never changed oil before 8k miles on any car, as i was in navy many years an seen engines run with almost no oil for thousands of hours on 24/7. so I think the 3 k thing is bunk.

but hey thats just me.

an i never had any internals fail on any vehicle i owned on the 8k OIC.

we will see what is what in the next week!

Thanks for writin, appreciate it!

(sorry for the wacko thread title, thought it might scare a bunch a folks off, and it did!) hahahhahahhaha

anyway, thanks again!

Welcome back sir wrench. That was via google /\. We share a boat as I'm at 263K, also with ....almost a rod knock....for a long time. Marvel and STP may me mostly pure petroleum that effectively just makes it thicker. Maybe not. My engine is a little clitkity clackety maybe with a little "thunk", "thunk", till it gets a nice tall draft of that straight weight Castrol 30 W. guess those polymer chains are really holden hands! Quiets WAY down. Doesn't get down to the 30's here often, I always give it a minute to get back up to where it counts.(if it even left!). Since I don't usually do 80 miles a week and you do more like 800, guess you can let us know how the trip to 300K goes!

Hows your blow-by btw?

A rod knock doesn't stay knocking for that long. The 4.0s are notorious for piston slap and make a klok-klok noise when cold which goes away as the engine warms up and the piston skirt expands.

I just started the MMO regimen on both my 4.0s which had an intermittent lifter tick on start-up. I drained a quart of oil and added a quart of MMO. I'm gonna run them for 1,000 miles and drain the oil, change the filter and put 5 quarts of Rotella back in with another quart of MMO.

This worked for me with the cold start lifter tick. Shut the engine off immediately and then restart. Tick is gone. I can't just let a motor run and wait for the lifter to pump up while making that horrible noise and running rough.

Having been in the NAVY myself I hear where you are coming from on the oil change thing. My normal regime is; filter, one quart MMO, 30wt penzoil to top off. Every 2500 to 3000 change the filter and add a bottle of oil detergent, oil as needed. I normally do a full change at 12 to 15,000.
