2009 Jeep 3.7 L V-6
New member here. Trying to change sparks plugs in 2009 Jeep Cherokee with 3.7 L V-6. The coil in the 2009 are held in place by a bolt for each coil. After the bold in loose, I can lift the coil about a 1" and it stops. The bolt is very loose but will not come out. I understand early model (06, 07) had a 10mm nut that when removed the coil would lift out. I have tried pulling up on the bold with large vice grips, but no luck. I welcome any advise members may have to solve this problem. Is a special tool needed?
I didn't have this problem with my old 97 with 318 engine .

Overseas the Liberty was marketed as a Cherokee so depending on where he is from (no one ever tells us or fills out their profile. Ever notice that?) it may in fact be a Cherokee

No Jeep except the Wrangler has round headlights since 2007...
OP, if your vehicle is a Jeep WK Grand Cherokee, check out the Grand Cherokee forum section: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/
Otherwise if you're outside of North America and have a Jeep KK Liberty/Cherokee, you'll have better luck with these sites: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/

You may be right about the model year change; I changed plugs on our 06 Libby and had no trouble. Does the bolt thread into some kind of insert? I'm just wondering if maybe it does, and the insert broke loose. Have you tried removing more than one coil? IOW, do they all act the same? Any pics?

Salad, you did say Jeep so technically you are correct. The Patriot is more Caliber with a square body, then real Jeep.

you remove the 7/16" Nuts holding the individual coils, unplug each coil by pressing little tab down with finger and unplug,no tools needed, then pull straight up,they will come out. Get yourself a short section of 3/8" rubber hose for removing the plugs from the hole if they dont stay in the socket (3/8" drive X 5/8" Deepwall is best, torque is 21 ft lbs.and use anti seize but not so much it gets in the electrode)USE THE RUBBER HOSE TO THREAD IN THE NEW PLUGS SO YOU CAN DO IT CAREFULLY and no cross threading. Also keep the 7/16" Hold down nuts far away until you are bolting the coild back down, they like to jump in the plug holes.Vegas
