2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee "Damaged Key"
Hello, we have a 2008 Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7L, with remote start
Last weekend my son parked his car and went into the store when he returned the car wouldn't start and the screen stated: "Damaged Key". We only have one key.
I brought the vehicle to a Locksmith with new keys to program, they were unable to program, and looks to be a SKIM issue.
Can the SKIM be reprogrammed? Does anyone know who could do this outside of the dealership?
Any help or ideas are appreciated.
List of things tried:
Reviewed grounding wires, all connected
Reviewed fuses
disconnected battery and reconnected
Removed SKIM(Wireless ignition module)
Tried to get new keys programmed

Hey Mods - Can you move this to the Grand Cherokee forum?

If you have the keys cut already, the dealer would probably just charge an hour labor to program them.
This might be a possibility too:

I like the info in that video.
If you were local to me, I have a fancy scan tool that claims to be able to program new keys into the SKIM. In order to do this you have to take your vehicle title to a dealership and beg them for a PIN for your SKIM that is married to your VIN. If/when they give that to you the scan tool uses the PIN to reset the SKIM. That all assumes that your SKIM is not broken/burned out, and that you key is the only problem. It worked on my 09 Chrysler 300, but I have not tried it on a Jeep.

@doublechaz , thanks for the offer. I wish I was close to try it out. on the other cost. It doesn't seem to be the key, it is likely the WIN.
