i've seen people cut them off, pound the original up into the rail and weld a nut to a big flat washer and then weld that to the hole

The worst is when the weld on the nut breaks and the bolt is rusted in.

yeah, I don't approach anything on my Jeep, secured by an internal frame weld nut, with out an oxy-acetylene torch; true story.

Its the ONLY way to get those bolts out without destroying them. Luckily you can tell where its welded to the frame and direct the heat enough to get them to separate.

I had the weld nuts break on my Jeep when I was installing the new leaf packs in the rear. Solution was to plasma cut them out and then weld big nuts onto the back of washers and weld the whole thing back in place. You can check my build page for pictures. I did have problems with the cross member studs breaking off but luckily I was able to drill and tap them with no problems.

Correction: I just realized that several of the pictures are completely gone...???

Default weld nuts

i have been drilling and tapping them out but i have broke three different taps and spent hours on stuff that should take 1-2 hours i guess when you get out of the miltary and work is hard to find you do what you can jeeps are kind of a love-hate relationship
