Default 2001 XJ acceleration / idling problem

My 2001 acted like it had bad fuel a few times. I put some fuel additive and injector cleaner in tank, it did seem to help. Slowly got worse over a month. Ease on the gas and you're fine. But when you floor it it just goes vroom, vroom, and will not accelerate. It idles a little rougher. Taking it to a mechanic to have it checked / looked at. Before wife uses it to get to work today. It's our only vehicle. I bought it after reaching my breaking point with a 2013 Ford Expedition. Deciding on the XJ 2001 (and below) came after lots of research, looking for a reliable car, that might help cut the mechanic bill through ease of diagnosis and repairs. Anyway who doesn't love a jeep right. Besides i can't forget my 71 cj5 i had when i was 18. Ahhh now there was a vehicle i could work on, and at 18 i didn't even know Nuffin !! I'll let you guys know what the mechanic says. Thanks in advance for any help.
