I am the original owner of a mint condition, low mileage, 2001 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) Sport 4WD with Sentry Key Immobilizer System, 4.0 liter engine, automatic transmission, tilt steering column, and cruise control. Unfortunately, it was vandalized during an unsuccessful attempt to steal it, requiring a replacement steering column, so I’m trying to confirm exactly which steering column part number is required.

According to the Mopar 2001 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) Parts Catalog, the steering column is identified as part number 4897809AB. However, parts suppliers (eBay Motors, et al.) identify the steering column instead as part number 52079822AD. Why are there seemingly two different part numbers for the same steering column, and what exactly is the difference (if any) between them? I have not found any documentation to explain the part number discrepancy or to confirm that one part number possibly superseded the other. Thank you in advance.
