2000 XJ transmission grinding
Hello, I have a 2000 xj that I just got back on the road after it sitting for 1 year. I finally got a temp plate and took it for a drive, and while I’m slowing down from about 50-60 mph there is a grinding noise coming from the transmission. The fluid level is good. Has anybody else had this issue or have an idea of why it’s grinding? And any possible solutions? Thank you in advance.
I did install a 3.5 inch lift with 31s, idk if that could cause the drive shaft to be in the wrong position? It wasn’t making this noise when it was on the old suspension as well as 33s.
Automatic or manual trans?
The lift will increase the angle of the drive shaft and pull it out of the trans or xfer case a little further. The differential pinion will tip down a little when braking too, making the angle at the differential worse. It's quite likely the noise is a bad u-joint.
