Howdy gang - long time lurker, first time writer. I just went to check out an XJ today. Lots of little projects but think I'm going to pull the trigger.

I was looking through some pictures and noticed this plug in the engine bay. Does anyone know what the heck it is? Thanks! Also have a bunch of gunk on the lower engine block. I'm assuming it's oil (low oil when checked but has been sitting for about a year), but if anyone things it's a big red flag I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Looking forward to tying up to this community more.

Random plug thing up top.

Sludge on lower end of block.

Another pic. Exhaust leaking around manifold so think it needs new pipes/manifold.

Is that 120v AC plug for a block heater?

Yup it's a block heater to stop the engine from freezing . Looking at the pictures it ok just needs a good cleaning and then fixing a few oil leaks , not bad for a 21 year old .

That's cool, I've actually never seen one like that before. I didnt know that was an option on the XJ.
