Default 2000 xj sound from transmission

When I'm at a complete stop there is a knocking ticking sound coming from the transmission area as soon as I start driving it goes right away...

Check the transmission mount (make sure it is not torn cracked, or flattened. note: a worn trans mount can allow the exhaust to hit the cross-member and make noise. If the exhaust is on the cross-member the transmission mount and possibly the exhaust hanger need replaced) and flex plate (make sure the bolts are tight and there are no cracks, there is an inspection plate on the lower-front of the bell-housing).

Probably worn bushings in the shift linkage for the transfer case.

If it is the linkage, you can usually jiggle the shifter handle inside the vehicle and make it stop. There is a bushing in the linkage fastened by 2 small bolts that wears out. The plastic bushings in the entire linkage may be worn too.
