Default 2000 xj no spark

The gremlins really got to my Cherokee this time!!!

I had my xj parked for a couple of months in my garage. I started her up drove to my neighbors turned it off for 5-10 mins went to leave and the old girl wouldn't start. She turned over fine, smelled fuel, checked for spark and had no spark. So I got the tractor pulled her home, did some research and replaced the original cps with a cheap 20$ unit. Still no spark, so I replaced it with and 80$ one from autozone, still no spark. Checked the 4 wire connector to the coil rail and I get 0.2v on 3 of the wires and 12v on the other. Figured it was the coil rail so I spent 100$ on a new one replaced it still no spark. Yes I grounded the spark plug go the engine block, I even used a pc of wire wrapped it around the plug and an engine ground. Thought I might be the ASD relay so I tried it in my buddies truck and the relay worked fine, fuel pump kicks on to prime when I turn the key. No codes popped up when I used the scan tool, I'm assuming when I Had the batter unhook for a while that cleared the codes. I double checked and cleaned all grounds. Ripped the wire harness apart looking to loose or broken wires, nothing, I have a 5v signal coming from the cam sensor.

I am stuck!!! I'm about ready to spend a couple g's and put a 350 in the old girl.

What do I do next!?!?!

If the cam sensor fails in a certain way, (rare) it can inhibit spark.

I'd run a full test on the cam sensor. Verifying 5 volts isn't enough.

Is there anyway I can fully check the cam sensor with a multimeter?

Yes, buy a service manual and it outlines the procedure. You will never regret buying this manual.

Factory service manual is the best. Haynes/Chiltons are just OK, kind of generic and have been known to have a couple of mistakes.

Here is a good source for a digital licensed, legal FSM for $7.95
