Well look at your 4wd shifter...if you have 2wd,4hi,neutral, then 4lo it's an NP231 if you have 2wd,4hi,fulltime,neutral and 4lo it's the NP242.

Default Axles

More than likely dana 35c rear, dana 30 front. It could have a Chrysler rear, especially if it has factory towing. If it's the typ dana 35c, it will have 35c cast into the diff housing in one of the rear facing corners.

(The cover will say dana of course. :-) )
The front will have a tag held on by two of the cover bolts, will probably say 3 55 at the begining of the tag. (3.55 gear ratio) This is the typical setup I run into I know, from 91 -2001. But as it always goes YMMV.

On 97+ the 8.25 is far better IMHO then the D35...I am looking for a 97+ 8.25 with 3.55 gears for mine just don't want to spend $400...uhg..The 97+ are the larger 29 spline rear ends and a bit tougher then the D35's and the 96 and older 8.25's..Also your axles should have a tag on the diff covers between two of the bolts...spray it down with some carb cleaner to get it to where you can read it..you should have your gears listed there..
