2000 XJ A/C issue - runs warm

hey, my 2000 XJ has an issue with the A/C - it runs fine and cold for a while, until the engine is good and hot, then it blows ambient temperature. I will turn the blower off for a while, and then a while later it will start to run cold again and so on.

Any ideas what is going on?

Something is dropping the compressor out , check for loose wires etc.

I thought about loose wires and such, but there's something about the repeatable nature of the fault - always fine on startup for 15-20 mins, then always fails when the engine is hot, then cycles after a while....
