Question 2000 XJ Blower motor resistor failed again

Just wondering everyone's opinion on something.

About 3 weeks ago I replaced my blower motor resistor because I lost the medium 2 speed. The new resistor worked great until a couple of days ago when I lost the medium 2 speed setting again.

I used a new resistor from the parts store, the brand was BWD.

Is it sheer coincidence that the second resistor failed just like the first one in only 3 weeks? Could something else be causing it to fail?

Should I opt for the more expensive Mopar resistor this time around?

Thoughts?

The resistor requires an airflow to cool the hot element. So if either the fan provides insufficient airflow or more likely you have a blockage, then the resistor will fail to prevent a fire. Rodents are known to get into the ducts and build nest. Be sure to check, you'll need to remove the fan.

I've had baby ground squirrels fall out when I removed the fan on my Tundra, just grass on the XJ.

I'll have to pull the blower motor and check into that. Good suggestion.
