Default 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ RACE

So my friend wants to race his 2001 grand Cherokee 2wd vs my 2000 Jeep Cherokee classic 4wd. Should I race him in full time or stay in 2wd. This will be a quarter mile race. Any suggestions?

Is yours an automatic?
Is his a 4.0 or v8?
Just curious.

Run it in 2wd. Race at least 2 times then switch drivers and at least 2 more runs. That way you will know who's is faster

Odds on favorite is the XJ. It's several hundred pounds lighter. Maybe not, being he's a 2wd. You need a flagman or signal because if you wait and react after he does, he's got you.

Dont get caught if its on public streets. Better yet, dont do it at all on public streets. But whatever.

Somedody had to say it.

Racing an SUV on public streets is asking for trouble. With the lack of stability as compared to a car, NONE of us would want to see you have an accident. Just look at that guy who wanted to test his tires and barreled into a gas station.

If you take it to a track, by all means have fun.

If he gets to ragging on you, remind him that anywhere he can go with his 2wd, you can get out of with your 4wd.

I'm curious as to why you'd race two slow Heeps against each other, but hey, knock yourself out. I'd say 2WD; you're not powerful enough to have traction issues in 2WD so you should lose less power to the driveline that way.

Drag racing 2 stock Jeeps makes as much sense as the guy who did auto-x with his Raptor at my last race....

That sounds like the opposite of fun. There's always one or two oddball vehicles that show up at our events and post abysmal times, too

It makes just as much sense as a lowered turbocharged XJ that does autocross but that thing exists and is sweet. I liked my turbo 4.0 so much I started selling the parts so others could do the same. The next project is a lowered 4.0T XJ with a 242TC for the autocross.

How about Team Petty Cash running a Cherokee at the LeMons 24-hour race and actually finishing?

Anybody see the Cherokee in any pics or videos of LS Fest this year? Pretty sure it was white. Saw it in the background of a drag video but couldnt find anything else

A 4.0 XJ is no slouch if the engine is healthy. It weighs as much as modern sports cars at just over 3000lbs. You should be able to beat him rather convincingly. If it's from a dig tires will play a huge factor though. Use 2wd.
