Default 2000 jeep cherokee rear end noise

I like to ask any one have idea if the rear end noise if the ring and pinion gear?
I have about 93,000 on the truck just did about 250 Mi over the weekend up state.I did not have any problems but on 4 different days while driving up state I did hear a clank noise from the rear while driving 55 Mi on the highway
no out of round feeling in the drive shaft .I also shifted to reverse when stopped to see if it could of been the rear drive shaft yoke no problems.I also tried up shifting the tranny from a stop into 1 st threw 3 rd gear to see if a load on the rear would make the noise(no noise)
I drove home yesterday night must of did 175 mi at high speed no noise.
I then again heard to small clank and it gone again.
I never change the rear end oil any one have any ideas?
I will drop the rear cover and see how the gears look and see if there is any broke gears or metal chips in the oil.I was told to look at the pull the retaining pin, remove the spider gears I think there is a set screw that hold the pin in place.
I wonder what is the location of the pin would it be were the c clamp that holds the axle in place the gear the shaft goes threw?
I wonder when adding gear oil do I need to add a Mopar Limited Slip Differential Additive
I drove the truck to day for about 50 mi No Noise at all going to think it going to hard to find the problem

Look at the transfer case also and your drive shaft joints.

Failing ring & pinion gears don't usually "clank" unless they are really trashed. The first sign you will notice is a howling sound that either changes pitch or comes and goes as you are on and off the gas. If you change the gear oil don't attempt to remove the pinion pin retainer bolt unless you really have too. If it breaks off in the carrier(and it probably will) you'll have a mess on your hands.

I went out to day had to use the truck did 150 mi no noise .I think I may have a bad U Joint in the rear that I am also going to change.
I like to ask the 2000 Cherokee rear in 4x4 with the straight 6 cylinder are the rear a limited slip rear that needs the additive or how can I tell if needed?

well just finished up the jeep rear and Man what a headache trying to remove the rear cover seem the factory used silicone High temp Red instead of a gasket had to tap a scraper between the cover and housing.I did get the cover off the gears were perfect no metal chips to be found any were I really did not find any thing wrong.I refilled the until with GL5 75-140
I did replace the 2 u joints the front one seem sloppy other then that I will keep my eye on it.Man them joint were in there super tight

well noise is back I did 350 Mi last week NO Problems no noise from the rear.I was on the way home doing about 75 Mi and hit a good speed bump on the highway and yep the clunk noise returned.I had it happen a few times about 6 times in 20 Miles and then the rest of the trip 100 additional Miles NO Noise.I really don't think it is the rear end.
any ideas guys?

If you checked and everything is good I wouldn't worry about it, turn up the tunes to drown out the clunk.
