2000 jeep Cherokee classic, grinding coming from transmission.
I have a problem with my 2000 jeep Cherokee that i need some guidance on.
Sometimes when i give it gas from a dead stop, the jeep will start to move, then i will hear a grinding noise coming from the bell housing, the engine will keep revving but the jeep stops moving.
As soon as i let the engine rev down and trying to take off again, everything works fine.
I have been hearing a thump in the bell housing for awhile that speeds up with engine rpm. It thumps in netural and in gear. The thump comes and goes and it pretty quiet for the most part. Could my flexplate bolts be causing the grinding and loss of movement? Is there anywhere else i should be looking?

Assuming it’s an automatic if your Jeeps revving up in gear but not going anywhere thats usually a sign of a bad torque converter, internal transmission damage, or low transmission fluid, unusual sounds will usually come along with it. You may need to only remove and replace the torque converter or possibly drop in a replacement or repair your existing trans. Or it’s as simple as topping it off with some fluid.
Best of luck
