Default 2000 Intermittent Crank/No Start w/random shutting down

Hi all,

This problem seems to be rearing it's head again. Occasionally, I would get a crank no start condition. To get it running I have to press the gas pedal to the floor and then crank it over. It starts and sounds like it might be misfiring which clears within two to three seconds. Now if I take my foot off the gas pedal it immediately dies as if it's not getting any fuel. I can repeat the process to get it started again and keep my foot on the pedal to keep it running. I've found that running it for no more than 30 seconds clears this issue and it then runs normally as if nothing is wrong. At this point, I can also turn it off and restart it without having to have my foot on the gas pedal. It starts and idles normally.

Now, I've run into this same problem but to add another layer of diagnosing fun, I can be driving and the engine will die. No sputtering, no bogging down, nothing. It's as if I turned the key off, which is a boatload of fun when you're doing 70 on the highway. At that point I'll shift into neutral and crank the engine to get it to start. This is where the two issues intersect. It will take a long period of time before the engine restarts. There were a few times where I had to pull over and crank it for an extremely long period of time before it finally started. However, the last time I got the crank no start condition. I had it towed to my mechanics to let him deal with it because I didn't have the time and of course it started right up for him.

It throws no codes so I don't know where to start. I'm making the assumption it's getting adequate fuel because it smells flooded if I crank and it won't start. The coilpack is newer as well as the TPS.

My thought is that the crank position sensor could be to blame but every time I go to check things, it runs fine. I'm hoping someone has some insight as to where I can start to diagnose this one.

Thanks all!
