Default 2000 Grand Cherokee , dead

Hi Guys , just gone out to start the car, nothing from the remote unlocking, tried the spare key, still nothing. Everything is dead. No lights or anything. Have not had any trouble with the electrics or the battery, so am at a loss.

My wife thought she heard a car alarm going off a couple of hours ago, not sure if it was from our vehicle or not, as have never heard it go off before.

Just waiting for a brother to arrive to try jumping it. As this car is new to me, (I was unsure based on my wife stating she heard an alarm earlier) if there was something added to the imobilisation system, that would stop the car from starting if the alarm was set off ?

Dumber of the year . It was a flat battery, when hooked up I was asked why are my lights on . On checking the switch they were turned off.

Then I noticed the problem, for added security I attach a long thick cable lock to the steering wheel, thinking it would be immposible to drive the vehicle with that attached. What I did not realise was when I attached it yesterday, I had looped it over the light switch collum, and the cable was pulling the stem acuating my main flasher beam, (which of course stays on even with the ignition turned off). So main beam on until the battery drained. Derrrrrr!!!
