Default 2000 Cherokee XJ Classic

I have a 2000 XJ and I have not gotten it checked out yet but it won't start and I have tried to jump it with no luck. When I turn the key is makes a bunch of clicking sounds.

The clicking sounds means it is battery right? or could it be the alternator because it didn't work when I jumped it?

Thanks for your help

The clicking most likely means it is the starter. I would start with checking that.

i had the same problem not too long ago, the solenoid on the started went on the starter itself so i would pull the starter and take it to advance auto parts or to autozone, whatever is near you and have them test it for free if it craps out on the test bed, they can ****** you up a replacement part if you dont want to pay that get the part number from them and look it up in www.autopartswarehouse.com they usually have really cheap prices. hope this helps.

Check battery connections, throw the battery on the charger.

In my experience (others may vary), when my battery was low, the starter would just rapidly click. Jump start and it was good to go. A single click was from a bad solenoid.

A bunch of clicking sound, kinda like a rattle sounds like the battery.
Make sure you are getting good connections when you jump.
Or charge the battery and see what happens.

I would buy a $10 can of battery cleaner and give the battery terminals a really good cleaning. I would even clean where the wires enter the terminals. A lot of electrical problems stem from a bad connection.
Was it an extra cold day, and what are your battery's cold cranking amps (cca)?
