Default 2000 cherokee starter issue

Hey you guys have helped a lot in the past, hopefully you can again. My jeep pulled into a gas station and after fueling up it wouldn't start. Turn the key and nothing but a slight click. Lights and radio work fine. Then had my girlfriend turn the key while it tapped the starter solenoid with a screw driver and it fired up. Same thing when I got home and tried to restart it. So I pulled the starter out and took it to AutoZone they tested it 3 times and it passed.

So do you think solenoid, connector, or something else? Thanks for any help,

Andy

Well after tapping it with screw driver and then it turns over sounds like it's sticking...

I would refresh connections at battery and starter connections, and the ground to body of jeep, Check all wires for corrosion.. If you continue to have issue, I would then replace starter..

Just my thoughts.

Ant...

I would start by cleaning the battery terminals and all of the grounding points and make sure that they are all shinny and tight. The grounding point will include the battery terminals, battery to the fender, oil dipstick, 2 at the coil, rear of the head to the fire wall also make sure that the mounting surface between the starter and the engine block is also clean since that is also a ground for the starter.

Haha well looks like I am getting a new starter anyways. While cleaning it up the plastic of the solenoid designated. Hopefully thats where the problem was to start with and not something new.
