Default 2000 Cherokee - not infinity - sound system

I have a 2000 cherokee with the regular tape deck and 4 speakers, no infinty amp or anything. speakers in front door and back roof. I want to replace the 4 speakers and the head unit. i was searching this forum and most of the posts were about cherokees with infinity systems or 6 by 9 speakers.

walmart . com has for 85 bucks a head unit and 4 6.5 inch speakers , pioneer.

from what i've read the cherokee can fit 6.5s with slight modifications.

i DON'T want to cut through the door because of depth. I would be able to drill new holes into the plastic if thats possible though. I want to keep the set up as close to factory as possible. Factory grills, etc.

this audio package deal at walmart just cant be beat. I'm not looking for the greatest sounding speakers ever, I just want a head unit to play mp3s and some new speakers. So how would i go about installing the 6.5's? is it possible?

I replaced my Infinity with Pioneer 2 years ago. You just need to drill new holes for the speakers. It's pretty easy.

?

The speakers should be shallow enough to fit behind the door panel?

Yeah they should be. I own a 94 Grand Cherokee Laredo. I just drilled extra holes and threw away the speaker covers. They weren't needed. But if you're unsure just do the measurements. It should fit perfectly though.

They will fit behind the door panels. No need to cut huge holes like in the picture. Didn't do such a great job..
