2000 Cherokee Evaporator
I've read several threads concerning the subject understanding removal of the dash is required. One of the threads has some excellent photos of each step. Two of the photos show the evaporator mounted in the Heater/ac box. It looks like I could cut a section of the box that houses the a/c evaporator and pull out from the cab. Comments?
Thanks

Uhm. Im currently doing this and its the HVAC box you're talking about. You shouldnt have to cut anything on mine (98) it just had bolts to unscrew and you take the lid off. Make sure to take the blower motor out first. Its held in by 3 bolts.

I hope that's the case for my 2000 Cherokee Sport. Also disconnect the evaporator and heater connections on the engine side of the firewall I assume? Do you have any idea why several of posts on the forum indicate you need to take out the whole dashboard?

Vacuum all r134a from the system.
Disconnect Battery.
Move the front seats back and lay them down.
Take off the plastic trim pieces for the dash.
Remove the two bolts holding the steering wheel up.
Remove the bolts and screws for the dash and firewall.
With a buddy move the dash up and out of the way. Tie off with some rope.
Remove HVAC box and replace the internals (if your careful can salvage the foam insulation).
Reverse the process and recharge the system.
Start to finish the job took about 4.5 hours. I had help from a friend for maneuvering the dash and hvac box.
Now have cold a/c.
