hard to start have to pump gas pedal is it fuel pump and how bad is removal and install

Rent a fuel pressure tester at auto parts store. Test before throwing parts at the unknown.

Dropping gas tank tip, floor jack and a 12"x12" piece of plywood on jack. Snug up jack and wood in center of tank, remove filler hose and then straps then slowly lower jack while holding onto tank. Watch the wiring to pump, remove when accessible. 95' and older you can leave tank in to change pump if my memory is correct.
