Default 1997 PCM after install issue

The PCM on my '97 Grand Cherokee Laredo 6cyl died, so I replaced it. Now it will turn over but will not start. There is no key with a slash symbol, the key has no transmitter on it, I have locked and unlocked all the doors and tailgate many times with the key and the electric switch on the inside and I, long ago, lost the fob.

Please tell me there is something I can do other than having it towed to the dealer for a reprogramming for a tow charge and $150.00 from the dealer...

Looking for some help while I still have hair left!

THANKS GUYS!!

i could be wrong, but the PMC may require programming to you VIN by the dealer. if that's the case you could just take the pcm to the dealer.

The dealer said it had to be programmed in the truck. I really don't trust them because of issues 20 years ago...I tend to hold a grudge when it comes to customer service... I'm just hoping to get lucky here.
Thanks!

i don't think it needs to be installed, probably just power applied during the programming process. there are guys on ebay who sell reprogrammed computers outside of the vehicle. you could contact one of them and ask how much just to program it if you prefer to avoid the dealer.
