How hard is it to take a 2 wheel drive and turn it into a 4 wheel drive.Looking at a 2 wheel drive Cherokee that is for sale,i already have a 4 wheel drive.Want to know how hard it is to change over and what would be involved in do this,i would have a donor car to use..

I'm not entirely sure but I once saw a thread with a guy asking the same question. Everybody responded, just keep looking for a 4x4. But since you have a donor vehicle, maybe that changes it. Good luck man

You'd have to swap the transmission and transfer case. Along with the front axle and driveshaft. You'd also need to put in the transfer case shift linkage. Alot of work but can be done.

Of all the vehicles to swap from 2wd to 4wd the Cherokee is probably the easiest. The front axle will bolt in, and then you just have to swap out the trans, tcase, and driveshafts. You may need a few other little parts, sensors, shifter, etc.. but it really shouldn't be too hard.

Is there a lot of cutting and welding that goes with this job?
