Unhappy 2 quick questions

Hi there, Im a new jeep owner (2002 cherokee) and i hope that you can answer some problems for me,
1. when my jeep is at idel after warming up the oil pressure guage reads just above the 0 mark and when im driving it goes up to 3, is this normal???
2. I am slowly loosing coolant and I have had the system pressure tested and no problems with leaks!!! although I am filling up the reservoir once a week, Im pretty sure that it isnt the head gasket as I have no white smoke out the back , I was thinking that it might be a water pump? is this common. the car has 117K on the clock
thanks for any help as I am nervous and have very little confidence in my jeep

Sweeny Jeep stopped selling or manufacturing the Cherokee in 2001 so I think you are mistaken. Please verify and get back in touch with us. We will need more specific information such as the engine and the oil you are using which only gives you 3 pounds of pressure at driving RPM.

Assuming you have a 4.0 engin?

The oil pressure should be between 37-75 psi at operating temp, if not I would recommend a oil pressure switch as there common to damaged durring an oil change.

If you are loosing coolant, a head gasket can have a slow leak without producing white smoke from the tailpipe. However the more common problem with a 2001 4.0 is a cracked head between the #3 and #4 cylinders. Try this, get the engin to operating temp. with the engin off. Remove the oil fill cap, using a flashlight look inside the fill hole stright down and inspect the casting for cracks, you may see coolant bubbling from the crack.
If this is the case the cylinder head must be replaced.
