2.5 MJ missing, running poorly

2.5 MJ missing, running poorly
hey everybody
Ive got a friend who bought a 86 over the summer with the 2.5, and manual transmission. it drove/ran fine for a while, and then started missing under load. its enough to lurch the whole pick up pretty good in the first 2 gears.
well weve replaced plugs, dist. cap, wires, fuel
filter, coil and theres been no improvement.
he took it to a local shop and they told him the motors bad, and its completely missing the computer. I dont really see how the motor could be bad as it idles, and revs fine. only time it has issues is when the motor is under a lot of load.
and i also dont see it even running if its "missing the computer"
Ive gotten a little info off JF, but there Comanche forum isn't a very happening place
